EU: €2 handling fee per customs declaration item from 1 Nov 2026

The Slovak Financial Administration announced that from 1 November 2026 an EU handling fee of €2 per customs declaration item is collected on imports of distance-sold goods from outside the EU. The value of the goods does not affect the fee. The amount and conditions were set by the EU and apply in all member states. The customs authority collects it when processing the customs declaration. Foreign platforms may charge items labelled “duty” that are not automatically passed on to the customs authority.

EU: temporary €3 customs duty on low-value parcels from 1 July 2026

From 1 July 2026 the EU applies a temporary €3 customs duty on low-value consignments (up to €150) imported from outside the EU, mainly through e-commerce. The duty depends on the tariff classification of the item, not on the number of pieces: five T-shirts cost €3, T-shirts and watches together €6. The seller or importer is responsible for declaring and paying the duty.
