Quick verdict

Shipito

A good choice for occasional purchases without a membership: consolidation works on a free account. The sales-tax-free Oregon address and 45 days of free storage require Premium ($10 a month or $60 a year).

Shipito carrier profile →

PE Planet Express

Cheaper for regular buyers on Premium: 60 days of free storage, consolidation at $5 + $2 per parcel and an annual plan for $50. Sales-tax-free warehouses in both Oregon and Florida.

Planet Express carrier profile →

Shopping at American online stores is typically 30–50% cheaper than in Europe — especially for electronics, branded clothing, and outdoor gear. The problem: most US retailers don't ship internationally. Reshipping services solve this by giving you a US delivery address, holding your parcels at their warehouse, and forwarding them to your home country. Shipito and Planet Express are two of the most popular options for European buyers. Here is a head-to-head comparison across 8 criteria that actually matter. We checked prices and terms against both services' official pricing pages on 10 September 2026.

1. Warehouse location and sales tax

Warehouse location matters because of US sales tax, which most US online shops calculate based on the delivery address.

Shipito: California and Oregon. Oregon is one of five US states with no sales tax, so deliveries to the Tualatin warehouse are not charged sales tax. The catch: according to Shipito, only Premium accounts can use the Oregon warehouse. Free accounts get an address at the Torrance, California warehouse, where sales tax applies.

Planet Express: California, Oregon and Florida. The main warehouse is in Torrance, California, with sales tax of roughly 9.5%. The warehouses in Tualatin (Oregon) and Fort Pierce (Florida) are tax-free. The Florida warehouse only accepts goods for international shipping, which is no problem for buyers outside the US. The pricing page lists a sales-tax-free warehouse for both free and Premium accounts. Planet Express also runs a warehouse in the United Kingdom.

Winner: Planet Express, narrowly. Both services let you shop without sales tax, but Shipito only with Premium.

2. Free storage

Reshipping services hold your parcels for a free window so you can shop gradually and consolidate into one international shipment (saving on shipping costs).

  • Shipito: 7 days free on a free account. After that, storage can be extended by 7 days for $7 plus $1 for each day the package has been expired, up to four times (28 days in total). Premium gets 45 days free, rising to 60 days at the Platinum and Diamond reward levels.
  • Planet Express: 10 days free on a free account, 60 days with Premium (90 days at the Florida warehouse). After the free period, storage costs $0.01 per pound of dimensional weight per day.

Planet Express gives you a longer free window on both free and paid accounts. This matters most when you shop gradually, for example around Black Friday while waiting for several orders. The overage fee is also low for light parcels: a parcel with a dimensional weight of 5 lb costs 5 cents a day.

Winner: Planet Express.

3. Consolidation

The main reason reshipping services exist is consolidation: breaking down individual packages and repacking them into one shipment to avoid paying separate international shipping for each item.

  • Shipito: consolidation costs $5.50 per parcel, or $3.25 with Premium, and is available on free accounts. On top of that, there is a processing fee for every received parcel: $3.25, or $2.25 with Premium.
  • Planet Express: consolidation is available with Premium only, at $5 + $2 per consolidated parcel, and a consolidated parcel gets 7 days of free storage. The pricing page lists no receiving fee; the mail-out fee is $2 per parcel (Premium includes one free mail-out request per month).

A worked example based on the published prices: three parcels consolidated into one shipment, excluding shipping and membership costs. On a free Shipito account you pay $9.75 in processing fees and $16.50 for consolidation, $26.25 in total. With Premium it is $6.75 and $9.75, $16.50 in total. Planet Express with Premium charges $11 for consolidation, plus a $2 mail-out fee where applicable.

Winner: Shipito if you do not want to pay for a membership, as Planet Express will not consolidate without Premium. With Premium, Planet Express works out cheaper.

4. Premium membership and loyalty programmes

Both services offer a free account and a paid Premium plan that lowers fees and extends storage.

  • Shipito Premium: $10 a month or $60 a year. Adds the sales-tax-free Oregon warehouse, 45 days of free storage, lower processing and consolidation fees, and cheaper add-on services (for example additional photos for $5 instead of $8).
  • Planet Express Premium: $10 a month or $50 a year. Adds 60 days of free storage, consolidation, and one free mail-out request per month.

The loyalty programmes work differently. Shipito Member Rewards is open to annual Premium members only: you earn points for shipped parcels (half a point for a parcel under 5 lb, one point for heavier ones) and for referrals. Higher levels unlock longer storage, discounted services, phone support and, at Diamond level, a 5% discount on shipping. Planet Express offers shipping discounts based on your annual qualifying spend with the company, but does not publish the specific tiers.

Winner: Planet Express on the price of the annual plan. The loyalty programmes cannot be compared directly.

5. International shipping — carriers and prices

Both services offer a choice of international carriers: USPS, DHL Express, FedEx, UPS. Prices are practically identical because both companies have similar volume rates with carriers.

Indicative prices for a 1 kg parcel to Europe:

  • USPS Priority Mail International: approx. $25, 7–14 days
  • DHL Express: approx. $45, 3–5 days
  • FedEx International: approx. $55, 3–5 days

Winner: Tie.

6. Customer support

Shipito: email and a contact form, plus live chat on weekdays from 9am to 5pm Pacific Time. Phone support is offered to members at higher Member Rewards levels.

Planet Express: a contact form with 24/7 support, and email support in several languages including Spanish, Japanese and Czech.

Winner: Planet Express for round-the-clock and multilingual support; Shipito if you prefer live chat.

7. Special services

Shipito offers:

  • Invoice removal from parcel (for reducing declared value — a grey area but legal in most cases)
  • Special packaging for fragile items
  • Repacking (removing original packaging to reduce chargeable weight)
  • 1 to 3 exterior photos of every received parcel included; additional photos $8 ($5 with Premium)
  • Consolidation on free accounts

Planet Express offers:

  • Consolidation (Premium only)
  • Photo of the incoming parcel included; content photos $2 for 3 or $5 for 10
  • Content video for $8 per parcel
  • Shop for Me assisted purchasing for a $5 fee plus 7% of the order value

Both services cover the usual needs. Content photos are cheaper at Planet Express, while Shipito consolidates parcels without a membership.

Winner: Tie.

8. Reputation and stability

Shipito has been operating since 2008 with tens of millions of parcels processed. It has a strong reputation among European buyers and extensive English-language reviews, YouTube guides, and forum discussions.

Planet Express was founded in 2013 and is smaller. It has solid reviews but a much lower profile among European shoppers.

Winner: Shipito.

Decision matrix

Situation Recommended Why
One-off purchase of a few parcels, no membership Shipito Consolidation on a free account ($5.50 per parcel); Planet Express requires Premium for it
Want to avoid sales tax Either Shipito's Oregon warehouse is Premium only; Planet Express has tax-free warehouses in Oregon and Florida
Need to store parcels for longer Planet Express 10 days free (60 with Premium) versus 7 days at Shipito (45 with Premium)
Regular buyer consolidating several parcels Planet Express (Premium) Consolidation at $5 + $2 per parcel, no receiving fee listed, annual Premium $50 instead of $60
Want support outside US office hours Planet Express 24/7 support via contact form
Prefer live chat Shipito Live chat on weekdays, 9am to 5pm Pacific Time

Conclusion

The right choice depends mainly on how often you buy. Shipito makes sense for occasional purchases without a paid membership, as it consolidates parcels on a free account. Bear in mind, though, that free accounts get only 7 days of free storage and a California address, where sales tax applies. The Oregon address requires Premium.

Planet Express works out cheaper if you buy regularly and pay for Premium: 60 days of free storage, consolidation at $5 + $2 per parcel, no receiving fee on the pricing page, and an annual plan for $50. It has sales-tax-free warehouses in both Oregon and Florida. Without Premium, however, it will not consolidate parcels.

Both services change their fees from time to time, so check the current pricing page before your first order.

If you're new to US reshipping, the process involves registering for a free account, receiving your personal US address, shopping at US stores with that address at checkout, and then requesting forwarding once all parcels arrive. Both services offer the same core flow — the differences above determine which one saves you more money over time.
