Customs
Brazil has a notoriously complex import regime. Personal shipments below 50 USD receive reduced charges. Above 50 USD, the combined tax burden includes: II (Import Tax) 60% + ICMS (state tax, 17–25%) + PIS/COFINS. Total duties for personal imports can exceed 90% of the shipment value. The customs process is lengthy (7–21 days) and often requires additional documents. The recipient's CPF (tax ID) is MANDATORY.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my parcel stuck in Brazilian customs for 3 weeks?
Brazil's Receita Federal has slow customs processing — standard clearance takes 7–21 days, sometimes 30+ days for unclear shipments. The most common causes of delay: missing recipient CPF (the parcel stays in limbo until the recipient provides it), inaccurate goods description, or suspected undervaluation. Once the recipient pays taxes online the parcel proceeds. Without payment within 30 days it is returned to sender.
