Customs
Spain is an EU member — no customs duties or extra VAT for mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands. Important exception: the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, etc.) are fiscally outside the EU under the special IGIC tax regime. Shipments there require CN23 and a proforma invoice, and the recipient pays IGIC (~7%).
Required documents
- None for mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands
- CN23 is a full customs declaration for parcels over 2 kg or above €270. You must list each item's description, quantity, weight and customs value. Issued at the post office or generated by the carrier.
Prohibited items
These items cannot be shipped to Spain.
- Weapons and ammunition
- Drugs and controlled substances
- Live animals
- Alcohol over 1 L

Frequently asked questions
Why do I need CN23 for Tenerife if it's Spain?
The Canary Islands (Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, El Hierro, La Gomera) operate under the special IGIC tax regime instead of EU VAT and are fiscally outside the EU customs union. Despite being politically Spanish, they are treated as a third country for customs purposes. Complete CN23 with a proforma invoice; the recipient pays IGIC ~7% plus any applicable duty. The Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca) are fully in the EU — no customs needed.
How long does a parcel to Spain take?
Standard delivery to Madrid or Barcelona takes 4–6 business days. Southern Spain (Seville, Málaga) takes 5–7 days. DHL Express or UPS delivers anywhere on the Spanish mainland in 2–3 days.
How much does a parcel to Spain cost?
A parcel up to 2 kg costs from ~€12 via DPD or Eurosender. A 10 kg parcel costs approximately €26. Express delivery (2–3 days) via DHL from ~€28 (2 kg) to ~€52 (10 kg). Use Eurosender to compare multiple carriers at once.
Which carrier is best for Spain?
DPD and GLS have solid networks for mainland Spain. Packeta operates via a Spanish partner, but the pick-up point network is smaller. Eurosender compares available prices in one booking. For express delivery, DHL Express is the most reliable with automated customs handling.
